Sami Spenner to compete in Pentathlon at USA Indoor Track and Field Championships Today!

Filed under: Omaha Mavericks,Track and Field — Jon Green @ 9:11 am

Just saw a tweet from UNO Track about Sami Spenner competing down in Albuquerque at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championship. It’s an awesome opportunity for Spenner who isn’t eligible to compete for the NCAA Championship due to Omaha’s status of a transition member. If she was her mark of 4101 would rank 8th nationally.

Does Spenner have a chance to win? Probably not as also in the field is one Sharon Day. Day you may recall represented the US in London at the Olympics in the Heptathlon placing 16th. That said Spenner’s best score of 4104 is better than all but five other competitors have achieved. No doubt she can put up a good mark here and the fact that she’s competing with Day is very cool. Her 4104 would have come in 5th last year, 6th in 2011, and 5th in 2010.

There will be some coverage of the championships on Universal Sports and NBC Sports Network this weekend, though you probably won’t see any mention of Spenner. UNO Track on twitter may have some coverage.

Go Sami!
