2012-13 Summit League Basketball – Final Day Scenarios

Seeds for Sioux Falls are still up in the air so here’s a look at what teams can finish in what positions and what they need to do to get those spots on Saturday.

We are looking at just straight up seeding information. I’ll mention where Omaha can finish in each section though.

Men’s Basketball
#1 seed:
South Dakota State has clinched the #1 seed.

#2 seed: Western Illinois has clinched the #2 seed.

#3 seed: North Dakota State will be the #3 seed with a win at Omaha or an Oakland loss at home to Fort Wayne.

#4 seed: Oakland will be the #4 seed unless they beat Fort Wayne at home and North Dakota State loses at Omaha.

#5 seed: Fort Wayne will be the #5 seed.

#6 seed: If South Dakota wins at Western Illinois they will be the #6 seed. If they lose at Western Illinois and Kansas City wins at IUPUI then Kansas City will be the #6 seed.

#7 seed: Kansas City will be the #7 seed unless they win at IUPUI and South Dakota loses at Western Illinois.

#8 seed: IUPUI will be the #8 seed.

Omaha could finish in 5th (Win and Fort Wayne loss), 6th (Loss and South Dakota loss), or 7th (Loss and South Dakota win)

Women’s Basketball
#1 seed:
South Dakota State has clinched the #1 seed.

#2 seed: IUPUI has clinched the #2 seed.

#3 seed: South Dakota has clinched the #3 seed.

#4 seed: Fort Wayne has clinched the #4 seed.

Here I’ll just mention the tiebreakers between the three teams in contention for 5-7.
Western Illinois over North Dakota State – due to Western Illinois sweeping North Dakota State
North Dakota State over Kansas City – due to North Dakota State having beaten IUPUI. Season series split and both teams 0-2 vs. South Dakota State.
Kansas City over Western Illinois – due to Kansas City having beaten South Dakota. Season series split and both teams 0-2 vs. South Dakota State and IUPUI.

#5 seed: Western Illinois will be the #5 seed with a home win over Oakland or a North Dakota State home loss to South Dakota State. If Western Illinois does lose and North Dakota State wins then North Dakota State will be the #5 seed.

#6 seed: North Dakota State will be the #6 seed unless they win at home against South Dakota State. If that happens and Western Illinois loses at home to Oakland then this seed will come down to the Omaha-Kansas City game. If the Mavericks win then Western Illinois would be the #6 seed. If Kansas City wins then they would jump up to be the #6 seed.

#7 seed: Kansas City will be the #7 seed unless they win at Omaha, Western Illinois loses at home to Oakland, and North Dakota State wins at home against South Dakota State. If that whole scenario happens then Western Illinois will be the #7 seed.

#8 seed: Oakland will be the #8 seed.

Omaha could finish in 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th place. If the Mavericks win they will finish in a tie for 5th. Omaha would lose the tiebreaker to either Western Illinois or North Dakota State so if one of those two teams wins then Omaha would be 6th. If both of them win it’d be 7th. If Omaha loses it’ll be a tie still but they’ll be in 8th after tiebreakers since they would be behind Western Illinois, North Dakota State, and Kansas City.
