Carly Cator–Career Retrospect

Filed under: Omaha Mavericks,Retrospects,Women's Basketball — Jon Green @ 11:00 am

So I saw a great post by Beau Spencer on Frank Gaines last week on In the story Spencer pointed out how Gaines had gotten his 1st point, his 100th point, his 200th point, etc. Gaines became Fort Wayne’s all-time leading scorer this last weekend. I thought it was a cool idea so I’m going to use it here for a way to look at Omaha’s seniors playing their final games this week.  Let’s start with Carly Cator.

Carly has started all 26 games for the Mavericks this season after appearing in 20 games in 2010-11. She spent two years at San Francisco State, one as a redshirt, before transferring to Omaha. She sat out the 2011-12 season after injuring her ACL in the preseason. At this point she has 99 career points, 99 career rebounds, 55 career assists, 21 career steals and 10 career blocks.

1st Point – 11/18/10 @ Missouri S&T – Carly Cator’s first point as a Maverick game in Rolla, Missouri against Missouri S&T. Cator came off the bench for the Mavericks and played 15 minutes in a 61-52 Omaha win. She hit her first shot of the game, a layup with 10:31 to go in the 2nd half, to give her the first points of her career and give Omaha a 45-41 lead. She had missed seven shots in the first game of her career against York, still a career high in shots.
10th Point – 11/27/10 vs. Calumet College of St. Joseph – Carly got her 10th point in a 69-38 win at the Sapp Fieldhouse over Calumet College of St. Joseph. Cator came off the bench again and hit a three pointer with 9:29 left in the first half to give Omaha a 27-12 lead and score her 10th, 11th, and 12th points of her career.
25th Point – 1/8/11 @ Central Missouri – Carly reached the 25 point mark in a 92-75 loss at Central Missouri. Cator came into the game sitting on 21 points. After an early three she headed to FT line with 2:14 left in the first half. She knocked down her first FT to reach 25 career points and cut the lead to 12-10. She’d go on to score eight points in the game. That was her career high until the game at Indiana Dabney on January 19th.
50th Point – 11/21/12 vs. Saint Louis – Cator came in to 2012 sitting on 47 points. After scoring two in the first game she was still sitting on 49 when Omaha took on Saint Louis at the Sapp Fieldhouse. Cator broke 50 early in the 2nd half when she hit a three to cut the Saint Louis lead to 29-19. It was her only points of the ball game as Omaha went on to lose 51-42.

1st Rebound – 11/12/10 vs. York – Carly’s first rebound came in her first game as a Maverick against York. She grabbed an offensive rebound of a Stacia Gebers miss for her 1st rebound with 1:11 left in the game and Omaha up 76-46.
10th Rebound – 12/1/10 @ Washburn – Cator came into the game at Washburn with seven rebounds but grabbed three rebounds in the final seven minutes to get to 10. Her final rebound was an offensive rebound of a Paige Frauendorfer missed three with Omaha down 69-64 and five seconds left in the game. That was the final of the game.
25th Rebound – 1/15/11 vs. Missouri Southern – Carly grabbed her 25th rebound in a 76-66 home loss to Missouri Southern. Cator had two rebounds in the game, the second was her 25th of her career. She grabbed it on the offensive glass after a Jessica Zaruba missed jumper with Omaha down 53-40 and 11:39 left in the game.
50th Rebound – 12/4/12 vs. Tulsa – Cator game into the game with 46 rebounds but had three in the first half to put her in position for her 50th. She grabbed #50 on the defensive end after a Taleya Mayberry missed three with 19:26 left in the game and Omaha trailing 24-13.

1st Assist – 11/12/10 vs. York – Cator had two assists in her first game. The first of them was a pass to Sara Reeves for a fast break layup to put Omaha up 24-20 with 8:31 to go in the first half.
10th Assist – 12/11/10 vs. Northwest Missouri State – Cator had assists in her first six games to grab her first eight. After failing to pick any up in her 9th game she got her next three in this one. Her 10th career assist came on a Paige Frauendorfer three pointer that cut the Northwest Missouri State lead to 75-58 with 6:28 left in the game.
25th Assist – 1/19/11 @ Pittsburg State – This game was Carly’s season high in assists as she had four. The last of them was her 25th of her career. She passed to Jordan Spencer who hit a jumper to make it 94-58 Pittsburg State with 2:32 to go in the game.
50th Assist – 1/19/13 @ Indiana Dabney – Exactly two years after getting her 25th assist Cator came into this game with 48. Her 50th career assist came in the second half when she set up Ericka House for a three pointer that made it 65-32 with 7:42 left.

1st Steal – 11/12/10 vs. York – Cator got her first career steal with 8:33 left in the first half off of a Carrie Berger turnover for York. Omaha went on to win 76-46 and Cator would get steals in each of her first four games and seven of her first eight.
10th Steal – 2/3/11 @ Northwest Missouri State – Carly got her 10th steal in this game late in 2011. She stole the ball from Shelly Martin after Martin had grabbed and offensive rebound and was immediately fouled by Abby Henry. Cator would go to the FT line and hit two FTs to cut the lead to 67-52 with 7:45 to go.
20th Steal – 1/19/13 @ Indiana Dabney – Cator had a career high two steals in this game. The 2nd was her 20th career steal. It came with just 2:20 left and Omaha up 77-39 as she stole the ball from Terranika Reynolds and drew a foul from Reynolds. Cator would hit both FTs to put Omaha up 40.

1st Block – 12/3/10 @ Fort Hays State – It took Cator six games to get her first career block. At Fort Hays State she blocked a Kimber Weiser layup with 12:01 left in the first half and Omaha trailing 14-8. Fort Hays State would get the offensive rebound but still didn’t score.
5th Block – 11/25/12 vs. Southwest Minnesota State – After getting only two blocks in her first season Cator had three in the first five games of this season. The 3rd was her 5th career block and it came with 12:55 left in the 2nd half when she blocked a Val Sahr jumper as Omaha led 41-15. Casse Vaughn would get the rebound for the Mavericks.
10th Block – 2/7/13 vs. Western Illinois – Cator’s 10th career block came against Western Illinois on February 7th. Cator blocked a Charnelle Reed three pointer with 17:42 to go in the 2nd half and Omaha leading 35-27. Taijhe Kelly came up with the rebound and would score on the other end for the Mavericks.
