Sunday Results
Omaha got off to a great start on Sunday at the Summit League Indoor Championships. The day started with the indoor pentathlon and Sami Spenner going for Omaha’s first Summit League Championship. Spenner won the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and long jump before coasting home in 4th in the 800m to easily win the pentathlon. Spenner set personal bests in the high jump (tied) and shot put while Alexander set personal bests in all of the events except the 60m hurdles and overall in the pentathlon.

In the afternoon Elizabeth Thompson set a personal record in the weight throw while failing to make the final. Terri Armstrong did the same thing in the 60m dash semifinals.

Kathie-Lee Laidley tied her personal record in the 60m hurdles semifinals as both she and Sami Spenner qualified for Monday’s final.

In the long jump Omaha went 1-2-4 in the preliminaries as Sami Spenner, Kathie-Lee Laidley, and Denneil Shaw all made the final. Laidley set a personal best with her jump as did Jessica Ripp who was 12th in the preliminaries and didn’t make the final. In the final Omaha went 1-2-4 again as Spenner took first and Laidley improved her personal best again. Shaw’s 5.64m was just 0.04m short of 3rd place, barely denying Omaha a 1-2-3 finish.

In the distance medley relay Omaha took 5th place with a season best time of 12:27.43 by the team of Nicole Behm, Jaqueline Mezick, Lydia Martin, and Ashley Kildow.

Monday will be the busy day for finals with Omaha having competitors in 10 events and a real chance to win several of them. Sami Spenner could be a three event champion by the end of Monday.

Here’s the team standings after the first day. Omaha has a real shot at 2nd place if they have a strong second day.

3 – 32 – Kansas City
