Filed under: Omaha Mavericks,Recaps,Women's Tennis — Jon Green @ 4:57 pm

Omaha dropped their first match of the year as the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans rolled into Omaha on a five game winning streak and came away with a 6-1 victory. The Trojans are in the midst of a seven matches in eight days road trip and beat Creighton 5-2 on Tuesday.

Omaha kept all three of their same selections as the last matchup against North Dakota.

#1 Singles: Omaha got their only point of the match here where Alex Tran defeated Yana Kakovkina 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. Kakovkina has been playing #2 and #3 singles mostly going 4-0 at #2 and 2-2 at #3. Tran might have benefited from Kakovkina being here and now Veronique Luksich who got the day off after starting the year 8-2 at #1 singles.

#2 Singles: Omaha’s Molly Matricardi lost to Kamilla Galieva 6-1, 6-3. It was Matricardi’s first loss of the year in singles or doubles. It was Galieva’s first start at #2 singles but she was 9-1 on the season coming into the match.

#3 Singles: Omaha went with Lindsay Weideman and she lost 6-0, 6-0 to Viktoriya Plyuta. Plyuta has spent time playing at #2, #3, and #4 singles this year and was 1-1 at #3 singles coming into the match.

#4 Singles: Omaha’s Emily Pierson lost to Dane Vorster 6-4, 6-0. It was Pierson’s first singles loss of the year while Vorster moved to 3-3 at #4 singles.

#5 Singles: Omaha’s Jacqueline Baude lost to Michaela McShane 6-3, 6-0. The loss was the first singles loss of the year for Baude. McShane is now 4-0 this year at #5 singles and 7-1 overall.

#6 Singles: Omaha went with Rachel Pierson and she lost 6-1, 6-1 to Christel Amsallem. Amsallem has gone 0-1 at both #4 and #5 singles, but she’s now 3-1 at #6 singles.

#1 Doubles: Omaha’s duo of Alex Tran/Jacqueline Baude lost to Yana Kakovkina/Viktoriya Plyuta 8-5. Kakovkina/Plyuta have been the #1 doubles team for nine matches and are now 5-4.

#2 Doubles: Omaha had a good chance to pick up a doubles win as Molly Matricardi/Tiffany Hottman were up on Dane Vorster/Kamilla Galieva 7-4. Omaha’s counting it as a win so Matricardi/Hottman in the #2 doubles is the only selection to go 3-0 this year for Omaha. Vorster/Galieva had been 4-0 on the year at #2 doubles.

#3 Doubles: Omaha went with Rachel Pierson/Emily Pierson and they lost 8-3 to Michaela McShane/Christel Amsallem McShane and Amsallem were playing together for the first time this season but Amsallem has gone 1-1 in previous #3 doubles matches.

Upcoming opponent:
Omaha faces Northern Illinois and Central Arkansas on Saturday March 2nd in Des Moines. Northern Illinois is 8-1 on the year with a 7-0 win against Western Illinois and a 6-1 win against IUPUI. Arkansas State is 3-6 on the year but when they faced Arkansas-Little Rock they only lost 5-2.
