Sami Spenner Does It AGAIN… Summit League Track & Field Woman Athlete of The Week!

Filed under: The Summit League,Track and Field — Jon Green @ 10:03 pm

A week ago Sami Spenner set a Summit League record. I’m not totally sure this is the first Summit League record Omaha has set, but I believe it is. The record is the most athlete of the week awards in one season in conference history. Spenner recorded her 5th of the season last week, breaking the previous record of four by Laura Hermanson of North Dakota State in 2007-08. Now Spenner has done it again and stands alone as the only woman with six in a single season. Along the way Spenner has moved into 2nd in conference history for career awards. Hermanson had seven between 2006 and 2008 and Spenner could break that record next year.

Sami Spenner certainly earned the award by winning the triple jump at the Nebraska Tune-Up with a jump of 12.99m. It was a personal best for the junior and leads the league this year and is 8th in the country. If only Omaha was eligible for that competition… Sad smile. She also was 5th in the high jump at 1.65m and 6th in the 200m at 24.50. Spenner seems likely to win several events at the Summit League Indoor Championship next Sunday and Monday.
