Omaha Picks Up Some Honors in Softball and Track and Field

Filed under: Softball,The Summit League,Track and Field — Jon Green @ 1:00 pm

Omaha had a successful weekend in several sports and they received a couple of honors early in the week. First of all Dana Elsasser was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week by the Summit League. Elsasser was 3-0 on the weekend and had a seven-inning, one-hit, shutout over Iona to start things off. For the weekend she had 10 strikeouts while giving up just five hits and two runs in 18 innings. More info can be found on TheSummitLeague.org and Omavs.com

Sami Spenner won the Summit League Track & Field Woman Athlete of the Week award for her outstanding performance this weekend at the Iowa State Classic. Spenner set a school record in the long jump with a jump of 6.23m, winning the event. She also won the triple jump with a distance of 12.76m, a personal best. Spenner seems to be a contender for several Summit League titles as both of those marks are the best in the Summit League this season. This was the 5th time Spenner has won the award this year, a new league record for a single season. More info can be found on TheSummitLeague.org and Omavs.com.
