Summit League Bracketbuster Predictions… Part 2

Originally it looked like we’d know our Bracket Buster matchups by now. Instead it’s been pushed back until February 4th. So we’ll take one more look at who might be options for the Summit League teams.

Home Teams:
17th – Western Illinois – Last time we said Illinois State was the likely opponent and I still feel that way. Evansville may be an option as well or potentially Green Bay.

25th – Oakland – Central Michigan has fallen off and likely isn’t an option. Same with Cleveland State. Bradley is a closer match now and Green Bay is a bit ahead of Oakland but doable.  One of those two I imagine.

48th – Fort Wayne – I said Bowling Green last time. They’re a little lower down the list of road teams now. SIU Edwardsville is still really close. Ball State could be an option from a little higher up the list.

50th – IUPUI – Remember that the Jaguars already played Bowling Green. SIU Edwardsville is the 50th ranked road team and would be a great fit. Eastern Illinois is another team somewhat nearby who might be an option..

51st – Omaha – Omaha has moved up seven spots among home teams and may have earned a much better opponent. North Dakota is only a few spots ahead on the road side and that seems a great fit for Omaha. Northern Colorado is 57th on the road side so it might be a stretch to see them in Omaha.

Road Teams:
2nd – North Dakota State – The question now is whether North Dakota State managed to stay ahead of South Dakota State with the recent two-game slide. My guess is with Nate Wolters being a “star” player that South Dakota State will get the marquee game with Wichita State and that North Dakota State ends up at Indiana State.

3rd – South Dakota State – South Dakota State really has moved up in the last few weeks and I think they’ve earned a trip to Wichita State. I’d be surprised if the matchups don’t involve some combination of the Dakotas playing at Wichita State and Indiana State.  That said Akron, Valparaiso, Northern Iowa, and Western Michigan are all in the top eight. Very midwest heavy.

32nd – South Dakota – I still think Southeast Missouri State would be a sensible matchup but others nearby include Eastern Michigan and Southern Illinois.

48th – Kansas City – Well… Northern Illinois and Central Arkansas are both nearby. There’s also three Summit League teams so it’s kind of messy in this area. My guess is either Northern Illinois or Central Arkansas though.
