2012-13 Omaha Women’s Basketball – Game 18 Recap – Indiana Dabney

The details are few and far between on this one right now. Thanks to Joey Sparano, Omaha’s Equipment Manager, we do have some idea what happened…

Omaha led 5-0 a couple minutes in and 13-0 before they gave up a point. It was 17-4 half way through the first half and 38-20 at the break. Paige Frauendorfer had 10 first half points while Jamie Nash had nine. Carolyn Blair-Mobley had seven, Taijhe Kelly had six, Casse Vaughn, Stacia Gebers, and Myhiah Dotzler had two points each.

The second half saw Omaha up 66-32 with seven minutes left, 74-39 with three minutes left, and the game end 83-39 with two minutes to go. Unofficial final totals had Frauendorfer with 16, Nash with 12, Ericka House and Carly Cator with nine each, Blair-Mobley with seven, Kelly with six, Casse Vaughn and Stacia Gebers with five. Myhiah Dotzler ended  up with seven as did Kate Bayes.

The game was called because Indiana Dabney had picked up several technical fouls in the second halfs and the refs decided enough was enough. Indiana Dabney had some bigger post players which meant Omaha took a lot of shots further out.

That’s a picture of the gym where they played… notice that there is not a correct 3-pt line. The only two out there are the old line and the NBA line. Not sure what they did. I also don’t see any signs of a clock/shot clock so it’s quite possible time (and probably the score) was just kept on the side.

I’ve heard that Omaha will try and compile a more complete set of stats from tape of the game and hope that’s true. Would be a shame for the players not to credit for what they did today. And how do you reconcile that in your season stats? Nash averaged x.xx points in 18 games this year and x.xx assists in 17 games this year? You can’t just give her zero… she’s in the top ten of the NCAA in assists per game. Would be a shame to see that average wrecked by a low count from this one. Interesting problem.

It was Over When: When it started… I mean there was no chance Omaha was losing this game.

Player of the Game: Probably Paige Frauendorfer with her leading the team in points. If we get a full set of stats I’ll revisit this but for now assume it was Paige.

Season Total:
Paige Frauendorfer (6)
Carolyn Blair-Mobley (5)
Jamie Nash (4)
Cathleen Cox (1)
Casse Vaughn (1)
Taijhe Kelly (1)

Response to 3 things to watch:
1) Dominance – I think 83-39 counts as dominate. Especially when you get backups a lot of minutes which it sounds like Omaha did today.

2.) Stat watch – I covered this earlier and it will be interesting to see what happens. Obviously great stats were not able to be kept.

3.) Bench minutes – Sparano tells me Dotzler played about 12 minutes, Kate Bayes about 13, and Allison Jackson about 9. Good to see the girls get some time because next year they’ll need to contribute more with the four senior starters graduating.

Prediction Response: Hey I was pretty close! Just a point off on Omaha and seven off on Indiana Dabney.

Upcoming Opponent: Omaha hosts North Dakota State on Thursday. After losing three of their first four Summit League road games it’s important for Omaha to get some him wins this next week. Game will take place at the Fieldhouse at 7 PM.
