2012-13 Omaha Men’s Basketball – Game 20 Postgame Notes, Facts, and Stats – Western Illinois

While I enjoying tweeting these out as well, figured this might be an easy way to put them all together for easy viewing :). Enjoy!

Scoring

  • Omaha has now had a player score 18+ points in 6 straight games.
  • Omaha has now scored 70+ in 8 straight games, their longest streak since 13 straight from 2/5/11 to 11/20/11.
  • Justin Simmons has scored 18+ six times, as many as the rest of the Mavericks have combined.
  • Omaha’s Floor% (% of possessions scored on) was a season high 54.3% and their best % so far against a D1 team.
  • John Karhoff has now scored in double figures a team high 40 times in her career, Omaha is 18-22 in those games.
  • CJ Carter has now scored in double figures 25 times in her career, Omaha is 10-15 in those games.
  • Justin Simmons has led Omaha in scoring a team high ten times this year, though Omaha is only 2-8 in those games.
  • Omaha had four players in double figures for the 2nd straight game. It was the same four in both games (John Karhoff, CJ Carter, Justin Simmons, and Alex Phillips). Justin Simmons had the most combined between the two games with 34.

Rebounding

  • John Karhoff grabbed seven rebounds, ending a 3 game stretch without a player grabbing at least seven that was the longest since 1/16/04-1/17/04.
  • Omaha’s 28.6% offensive rebounding % was their 7th best % of the season and best since the Oakland game.
  • Omaha’s 65.2% defensive rebounding % was their 8th best % of the season.
  • John Karhoff has improved his rebounding total in four straight games. 1, 3, 4, 5, 7.
  • Alex Welhouse has had seven rebounds in the past two games combined. His lowest total in consecutive games since he grabbed just five combined in the North Dakota State and South Dakota State games.

Assists

  • CJ Carter has grabbed 4+ assists a team high six times.
  • John Karhoff has an assist in nine straight games.

Steals

  • Omaha has 57 steals in the last 6 games, the most in a 6 game stretch since 11/27/07-12/19/07 (57).
  • CJ Carter has led the team in steals a team high 20 times in his career. Omaha has gone 5-15 in those games.

Blocks 

  • Omaha has 18 blocks in the last 5 games, the most in a 5 game stretch since 2/2/12-2/25/12 (20).
  • Matt Hagerbaumer had two or more blocks in four out of five games from 11/18/12-12/1/12. He hasn’t gone for for more than 1 block since. Additionally he had 10 of this 17 blocks this season during that stretch.

Shooting

  • Justin Simmons hit 8 FGs to make Thursday the 6th straight game a Maverick hit 8 or more FGs.
  • The last time Omaha had 25+ FG in 8 straight games (current streak) was 2/5/11-11/20/11, a stretch of 13 straight games.
  • The last time Omaha had 28+ FG in 7 straight games was a stretch of 8 straight from 2/6/10-3/5/10.
  • The last time Omaha had 209+ FG in a 7 game stretch was 2/26/11-11/20/11 (209).
  • Justin Simmons now had six of the 11 performances this year where a Maverick hit 8 FGs.
  • For the first time since the Benedictine game (12/18) no Maverick hit more than 1 3FG.
  • After failing to have any player hit 4 or more FTs in 5 straight games, the Mavericks have done it in 7 of the last 8 games.
  • The 28 FGs Omaha hit on Saturday were tied for the 6th most this season.
  • For the 2nd straight week Omaha hit a combined 61 FGs between their Thursday and Saturday games.
  • The 15 FTs Omaha hit on Saturday were the 7th highest total of the season.
  • Omaha now had 33 FTs in the last two games, the most since 39 FTs in the first two games combined.
  • With his 3FG on Saturday Alex Welhouse moved into a tie for 9th in career 3FG. Welhouse now has 131 3FG and is tied with Troy Kloewer who played at Omaha from 1993-97.
  • Alex Welhouse moved from 10th to 9th in all-time career 3FG% on Saturday. Welhouse is a career 38.64% 3FG shooter.

Miscellaneous

  • Omaha has trailed in every game this year and trailed by 10 or more in 14 of the 20 games.
  • Omaha has trailed by 20 or more in 11 games this year and four of the last six games.
  • Omaha’s 1.04 points per possession were the 5th most of the season and 5th straight game over 1.00. The Mavericks have only been over 1.00 point per possession ten times this season.
  • Omaha’s 9.8% turnover rate was their best of the season and lowest since 7.9% against Nebraska-Kearney last year, a stretch of 20 games.
  • Alex Welhouse made his 60th career start on Saturday. Omaha is 24-36 in Welhouse’s starts.

Maverick Summit League/National Ranks

  • Omaha is 3rd in the Summit League in steals (7.05) and 4th in FG% (45.5%).
  • Omaha is in the top 150 nationally in two categories: FG% – 82nd at 45.5% and 3FG% – 127th at 35.1%.
  • Justin Simmons is 6th in the Summit League in scoring at 14.8 ppg. He ranks 235th nationally in that category.
  • CJ Carter is 9th in the Summit League in assists with 2.6 apg while Matt Hagerbaumer is 7th with 0.85 blocks per game.
