2012-13 Omaha Men’s Basketball – Game 19 Postgame Notes, Facts, and Stats – IUPUI

While I enjoying tweeting these out as well, figured this might be an easy way to put them all together for easy viewing :). Enjoy!

Scoring

  • John Karhoff became the 4th Maverick to score at least 20 points this year. Justin Simmons (4 times), CJ Carter, and Marcus Tyus are the others.
  • Omaha has now had a player score 20+ points in 4 straight games and 18+ in 5 straight games.
  • Omaha’s 90 points were their most of the season and the most since they scored 106 vs. Peru State on 2/1/12.
  • Omaha’s 1.19 points per possession were their best mark of the season, besting a 1.09 ppp mark vs. Bethune-Cookman.
  • Omaha has now scored 1.02 ppp or more in four straight games and 0.96 ppp or more in 6 of the last 7 games.
  • Omaha scored on 53.5% of their possessions, only the 5th game over 50% and the best since a floor% of 53.9% against Bethune-Cookman on 11/23.
  • Justin Simmons has scored in double figures in all five Omaha wins and leads the team with 15 double figure games this season.
  • CJ Carter has scored in double figures seven times and Omaha is 4-3 during those seven games.
  • John Karhoff has scored 20+ points four times in his career. Omaha is 3-1 in those four games.
  • John Karhoff has led Omaha in scoring a team-high 10 times in his career and Omaha is 4-6 in those games.
  • This was the first time this season, in five games, that Omaha has won when John Karhoff led the team in scoring.
  • This was the first time since the Texas-Pan American game (12/22/12), a stretch of four games, that 4 Mavericks were in double figures.
  • Omaha had four players score 20+ points last year as well. CJ Carter, Mitch Albers, Alex Welhouse, and John Karhoff all did it.
  • Omaha has scored 75+ points in 4 straight games for the first time since a 9 game stretch from 2/5/11 to 3/5/11.
  • Omaha has now scored 70+ in 7 straight games, their longest streak since 13 straight from 2/5/11 to 11/20/11.

Rebounding

  • Omaha had their 2nd straight game without a player grabbing 7 or more rebounds after a streak of 4 straight.
  • Omaha grabbed 74.2% of their available defensive rebounds, the 2nd best % of the season (86.4% against Denver).
  • Omaha grabbed 54.5% of the rebounds in the game, their best percentage of the season (52.2% against Saint Mary).
  • Justin Simmons has led Omaha in rebounding five times this season. Omaha is 2-3 in those five games.
  • Omaha had their 3rd straight game without a player grabbing 7 or more rebounds after a streak of 4 straight.
  • The last time Omaha didn’t have a player grab 7 or more rebounds in 3 straight games was 1/16/04-1/17/04.

Assists

  • John Karhoff now has had five assists four times this year. He has had 5+ assists as many times as the rest of the team combined.
  • This was the 2nd time all year that Omaha has had 3 players have 4+ assists; the other was Bethune-Cookman.
  • Omaha’s 21 assists were their most of the season and the most since they had 22 vs. Nebraska-Kearney on 2/15/12 last year.
  • Omaha assisted on 63.6% of their made FGs, the best A/B % since the Iowa State game (79.2%) on 12/9.
  • John Karhoff is now 2nd on the team with 7 games where he has had 5+ assists. Caleb Steffensmeier has done it 11 times.
  • This was the 10th time in his career that John Karhoff has led Omaha in assists. Omaha is 4-6 in those 10 games.

Steals

  • Omaha had 10+ steals for the 5th time this season and 4th time in five games.
  • Omaha has 49 steals in the last 5 games, the most in a 5 game stretch since 11/27/07-12/16/07 (53).

Blocks

  • John Karhoff blocking 3 shots was just the 10th multi-block effort of the year. It was also the co-most of the season (Matt Hagerbaumer vs. Nebraska).
  • John Karhoff and Matt Hagerbaumer have each blocked 3 shots in a game one time. No other current Maverick has had more than 2 in a game.
  • Omaha has 16 blocks in the last 4 games, the most in a 4 game stretch since 2/2/12-2/15/12 (19).

Shooting

  • CJ Carter hit 8 FGs to make Thursday the 5th straight game a Maverick hit 8 or more FGs.
  • CJ Carter‘s 8-9 shooting (89%) was the best % for any player hitting 5+ FGs this season. Alex Phillips’ 6-7 shooting (86%) was the 2nd best %. John Karhoff’s 7-9 shooting (78%) was the 4th best %.
  • John Karhoff (6) and Marcus Tyus (5) became the 8th and 9th Mavericks to hit at least 5 FTs in a game this season.
  • John Karhoff’s 6-6 FT shooting was the most made FTs without a miss by a Maverick this season.
  • Omaha hit 33 FGs on Thursday, their highest total of the season and most since they hit 44 FGs against Peru State on 2/1/12 of last year.
  • Omaha shot 62.3% from the field against IUPUI. It was their highest FG% since 62.7% against Lincoln on 1/29/11.
  • Omaha has now shot over 50% in their last 3 straight games, the first time they’ve done that since a 4 game stretch from 1/8/11 to 1/19/11.
  • Omaha’s 18 FTs were the most they’ve had since the Benedictine game (12/18) and 3rd most of the season.
  • Omaha’s 85.7% FT shooting was their highest % of the season and best since 100% (6-6) at Western Illinois last season.
  • The last time Omaha made at least 18 FTs and shot 85.7% or better was a 19-22 (86.4%) outing vs. Central Missouri on 2/16/11.
  • Omaha’s 67.9% eFG% was their best of the season and best so far against a D1 team.
  • This was the first time Omaha shot over 60% from the field since 12/19/11 vs. Hastings.
  • John Karhoff moved his career FG% from 51.1% to 51.5% on Thursday. He’s now 6th in school history.
  • CJ Carter’s 8-9 shooting (89%) is tied for 5th best % with at least 8 FGs in Omaha history.
  • CJ Carter also has the 10th best FG%, 10-12 (83%) against Kansas City on 12/31.
  • The last player to shoot better than CJ Carter’s 8-9 was Mitch Albers when he went 12-13 (92%) against Concordia on 11/14/11.
  • Omaha’s 62.5% FG shooting goes into the school record books in 9th place all-time.
  • Omaha has 3 straight games with 30+ FGs for the first time since 2/5/11-2/12/11.
  • Omaha has 94 FGs in the last 3 games, the most in a 3 game stretch since 2/1/12-2/5/12 (99).
  • After failing to have any player hit 4 or more FTs in 5 straight games, the Mavericks have done it in 6 of the last 7 games.
  • The last time Omaha had 25+ FG in 7 straight games (current streak) was 2/5/11-11/20/11, a stretch of 13 straight games.
  • The last time Omaha had 28+ FG in 6 straight games was a stretch of 8 straight from 2/6/10-3/5/10.
  • The last time Omaha had 178+ FG in a 6 game stretch was 1/24/12-2/15/12 (178), buoyed by 44 against Peru State.

Miscellaneous

  • Omaha has had 75 or 76 possessions in all of their last five games, a good sign that Omaha is playing games at a pace they are comfortable with.
  • Omaha’s 1.07 defensive points per possession was their 5th best performance of the season. The top 5 are all wins.
  • Omaha has a FT Production Rate of 34.0, their 4th highest of the season and best since Benedictine (35.6) on 12/18.
  • Omaha has won all four of their games where they achieved a FT Production Ratio of 30 or greater.
  • John Karhoff has made 70 career starts, more than any active Maverick. Omaha is 32-38 in his 70 career starts.
  • Alex Welhouse played in his 90th career game for Omaha on Thursday.
  • Omaha has trailed in every game this year and trailed by 10 or more in 13 of the 19 games.
