2012-13 Omaha Men’s Basketball – Game 18 – Postgame Notes, Facts, and Stats

While I enjoying tweeting these out as well, figured this might be an easy way to put them all together for easy viewing :). Enjoy!

Scoring

  • Marcus Tyus now has 117 points on the year, the 10th highest season total for a freshman since 2000-01. Tyus passed Eric Wiebers (115 points in 2001-02).
  • Marcus Tyus became the 4th Maverick freshman to score 20+ in their freshman season since 2000-01. The other 3 are Mitch Albers, CJ Carter, and Ryan Curtis.
  • Mitch Albers is the only Maverick other than Marcus Tyus to score 20+ on the road in their freshman season since 2000-01.
  • Justin Simmons has scored 24+ 3 times this season and 20 in another game. Simmons has gone for 20+ in 3 straight games.
  • Justin Simmons is the first Maverick to score 20+ in 3 straight games since Mitch Albers did it from 2/2/12 to 2/12/12 last year.
  • Justin Simmons is also the first Maverick with 24+ in back-to-back games since Mitch Albers scored 25 and 24 last year on 12/29/11 and 12/30/11.
  • Marcus Tyus is the 3rd Maverick to score 20+ this year. Justin Simmons (four times) and CJ Carter (26 vs. Kansas City) are the others.
  • Omaha’s 78 points were their 4th highest of the season and gave them 75+ points in 3 straight games.
  • Omaha’s 1.03 points per possession was the 5th highest of the season and 3rd straight game over 1.00.
  • Omaha scored on 52.8% of their possessions, the 2nd highest Floor% of the season behind Bethune-Cookman (53.9%).
  • Marcus Tyus has scored in double figures 3 times for Omaha, but the Mavericks are 0-3 in those games.
  • Omaha is 2-2 in Justin Simmons 4 games where he scores 20+ points, both of those losses on this road trip.
  • Justin Simmons has now led Omaha in scoring 9 times; matching John Karhoff for the most any Maverick has in their career.
  • Omaha had 3 players in double figures on Saturday for the first time since 12/31/12 against Kansas City.
  • Omaha also had 2 players with 20+ points in Saturday, again for the first time since 12/31/12 against Kansas City.
  • Omaha has now scored 70+ in 6 straight games, their longest streak since 13 straight from 2/5/11 to 11/20/11.

Rebounding

  • Omaha had their 2nd straight game without a player grabbing 7 or more rebounds after a streak of 4 straight.

Assists

  • Omaha’s 9 assists on Saturday ended a streak of 4 games with 13+ assists.

Steals

  • Justin Simmons has grabbed 3 steals in 4 games this season, all of those in the last 6 games.
  • Omaha grabbed 10 steals, their 4th highest total of the season and 3rd time at 10+ in the last 4 games.
  • Omaha has 39 steals in the last 4 games, the most in a 4 game stretch since 1/4/08-1/14/08 (42).

Blocks

  • For the first time since the Saint Mary game (11/10) Omaha had two players block at least 2 shots (CJ Carter and Alex Welhouse).
  • Omaha’s 6 blocks were the 2nd most of the year and most since 7 against Saint Mary (11/10).
  • CJ Carter and Alex Welhouse led the Mavericks with 2 blocks each. It was the first time either has led Omaha in blocks this year.

Shooting

  • Justin Simmons had 11 FGs, the 2nd highest total of the season behind his 12 vs. Benedictine.
  • Justin Simmons has now had 8+ FGs on five occasions this year; the rest of the team has four combined.
  • This was the first time this year where two Mavericks made 8+ shots (Tyus had 8). They combined for 61% of Omaha’s FGs on Saturday.
  • Mitch Albers was the last Maverick to hit 11+ FGs twice in a season; he went for 11 and 12 FGs last year.
  • CJ Carter’s five FTs made him the 7th Maverick to hit more than 4 FTs this season. Carter has done it a team high twice.
  • Omaha’s 31 FGs were the co-most they’ve had this year; they had 31 against Saint Mary as well.
  • Omaha now has back-to-back 30+ FG games for the 1st time since 12/10/11 (Fort Wayne) and 12/15/11 (Saint Mary).
  • Omaha’s 50.8% FG% was their 3rd highest of the season and the 2nd straight game over 50%.
  • The last time Omaha shot over 50% in consecutive games was 11/14/11 (Concordia) and 11/16/11 (Kansas City).
  • After failing to have any player hit 4 or more FTs in 5 straight games, the Mavericks have done it in 5 of the last 6 games.
  • The last time Omaha had 25+ FG in 6 straight games (current streak) was 2/5/11-11/20/11, a stretch of 13 straight games.
  • The last time Omaha had 28+ FG in 5 straight games was a stretch of 8 straight from 2/6/10-3/5/10.
  • The last time Omaha had 145+ FG in a 5 game stretch was 2/1/12-2/15/12 (150), buoyed by 44 against Peru State.

Miscellaneous

  • Omaha gave up 1.30 points per possession, their 3rd worst of the season and worst since Iowa State (12/9).
  • Omaha has now played 4 of their fastest 7 games in the last 4 games and 6 of their fastest 10 in the last 6 games.
  • Omaha had their 2nd best TO Rate, only turning it over on 14.6% of their possessions. They have lost by 18+ in those two games.
  • Saturday was Coach Derrin Hansen’s 100th career loss. He is now 125-100 in his career.
  • Omaha has trailed in every game this year and trailed by 20 or more in 10 of the 18 games.

Maverick Summit League/National Ranks

  • Omaha is 3rd in the Summit League in steals (6.83) and 4th in FG% (44.6%).
  • Omaha is in the top 150 nationally in two categories: FG% – 126th at 44.6% and 3FG% – 98th at 35.6%.
  • Justin Simmons is 6th in the Summit League in scoring at 14.6 ppg. He ranks 251st nationally in that category.
  • Alex Welhouse is 11th in the Summit League in 3FG with 28. He ranks 189th nationally in that category.
  • CJ Carter is 9th in the Summit League in assists with 2.5 apg while Matt Hagerbaumer is 6th with 0.94 blocks per game.
