In the first tip on our list this afternoon Iowa State hosts BYU in what should be a good matchup, the Cyclones a slight favorite.  Oakland travels to Western Michigan where they are slight underdogs. Oakland has only played one home game and has played a rigorous early schedule. Chicago State travels to SIU-Edwardsville where they are double-digit underdogs. Tulane is off to a great 5-2 start and now hosts Navy in a very winnable game. Bethune-Cookman is 2-5 with wins over UNO and… UNO (New Orleans), they have a good chance to pick up the 3rd in a cross-state trip to Florida A&M. Benedictine has been playing well but faces a tough home game against Evangel. Fort Wayne is at home against MAC-foe Miami Ohio and looks to spring the upset. Northern Illinois is a woeful 1-4 and doesn’t have much hope in a road game against Dayton today. Saint Mary is a slight underdog at home against Friends. 4-0 Texas Tech faces by far their toughest test of the season at home against Arizona. Cal State Bakersfield has only 1 win but has a coin-flip’s chance against UT San Antonio this evening.

In the Summit League, Kansas City hosts Western Illinois in a battle to see who will be the first Summit team with two wins. Kansas City is a slight favorite in what should be a great game. South Dakota hosts IUPUI in a battle of winless Summit teams, the Coyotes are slight favorites in this one.  The final game is Omaha traveling to South Dakota State where the Mavericks are expected to lose by 20+ points.

This Day In Maverick History:

The men’s team last play on December 1st in 2010, a 79-73 loss in Topeka against Washburn. It was the first game of the Mavericks final season in the MIAA (though it wasn’t known at the time). Tyler Bullock scored 20 and Jeff Martin had 18, but it wasn’t enough as Omaha suffered a loss to a school they struggled with over their time in the MIAA.  The last time the men won on the 1st was a 80-66 win at #3 Northwest Missouri State in 2007. That win snapped a 17-game home winning streak for the Bearcats. Michael Jenkins had 21, Andrew Bridger had 18 while Justin Peterson grabbed 15 rebounds.  The win moved the Mavericks to 6-0 for the first time since 2003.

The women’s team last won on December 1st last year when they took down York 80-37.  Taijhe Kelly had her best game to the point when she scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Omaha outrebounded York 58-24, Paige Frauendorfer had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. The game featured a 27-0 Omaha run that gave them a 37-5 lead.
