CFU Club Championship 2009 Update – 4-6

Filed under: CONCACAF Champions League — Jon Green @ 1:56 am

Finally playing, Tempête FC beat Alpha United 2-0 to advance 3-1 on aggregate.  They now will take on F.C. Hoppers in the next round.

So once again here are the matchups for the 2nd round.

  • San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad and Tabago) vs. Inter Moengotapoe (Suriname)
  • Hoppers (Antigua and Barbuda) vs. Tempête FC (Haiti)
  • W Connection (Trinidad and Tabago) vs. Cavaly (Haiti)

The 3 winners will join the Puerto Rico Islanders of Puerto Rico in the semifinals, where the two winners of the semifinals and the winner of the 3rd place game will advance to the Champions League.

San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad and Tabago) vs. Inter Moengotapoe (Suriname)

Both teams were in the 2007 CFU Club Championship.  Inter Moengotapoe was eliminated in the Group stage on Goal Differential, while San Juan Jabloteh went all the way into the 3rd place match, where they were defeated by Puerto Rico Islanders.  San Juan was seeded this year, so this will be their first action, and they are the favorite in this matchup.

Hoppers (Antigua and Barbuda) vs. Tempête FC (Haiti)

Neither of these clubs were entered into the 2007 CFU Club Championship.  Hoppers defated a quality opponent in Sevilla of Puerto Rico in the first round, while Tempête defeated a little lesser opponent in Alpha United.  Should be a good matchup here.

W Connection (Trinidad and Tabago) vs. Cavaly (Haiti)

Neither of these clubs were entered into the 2007 CFU Club Championship, however W Connection looked the stronger of the two in the first round… of course that probably had a lot to do with their opponent as they won 17-1 on aggregate over Centre bath Estate.  Cavaly managed to keep 2 clean sheets defeated Britannia 6-0 on aggregate.  Another good matchup.

First leg is Monday April 13th, second leg Monday April 20th.  Then the three winners will move onto the semifinals on May 15th.
